How to find your WHY.

I often talk about referring back to your WHY when you feel stuck. Because your WHY is what drives you in life.  But what if you don’t know what your WHY is…how do you find it?

Simon Sinek has created this one simple but effective sentence to help you find your WHY.

My why is to *how do you want to help people* so that *the impact you want to have*.

Here’s my WHY.

My WHY is to teach people how to find clarity and happiness with their career so we can create a more purposeful life and make an impact in this world.

When I felt stuck in my career, I was asked many times “So what do you want to do Fiona?”. And my answer would always be “I don’t know”. They tried to offer suggestions like “What are you good at? What do you like doing in your spare time?”. However, none of those questions helped me discover my next career unless I wanted to become a food critic or a mattress tester 😂.

No one taught me to look deeper into myself and look beyond my career to find the answer. I didn’t know how to self-discover. The one thing I was certain about was I wanted to make an impact on others.

Fifteen years later, I figured out my purpose in life. However, my career is no longer just about me - What do I want to do? What can I get out of it? My career now is about you. The people who are here to learn from my mistakes, missteps and lessons I learned along the way. What can I offer you to take with you for your own career journey?

There are many career coaches out there who provide tips and methods on how to find a career that best suits you. To be honest, no shade to those who do that but AI can do that for us. Just ask AI how you can find career clarity and happiness and this is the answer you’ll get:

Finding career clarity and happiness can be a personal journey, but there are a few steps you can take to help you along the way. First, it's important to reflect on your interests, values, and skills. What are you passionate about? What are your core values? What are you good at? Understanding these aspects of yourself can help you identify potential career paths that align with your strengths and values.

Next, consider exploring different industries and job roles. Research different careers that interest you and learn more about the skills and qualifications required for those roles. You can also reach out to professionals in those fields for informational interviews or shadowing opportunities to get a firsthand experience.

Additionally, it can be helpful to set goals and create a plan. Define what success means to you and set realistic goals that align with your values and interests. Break down those goals into smaller, actionable steps that you can take to move closer to your desired career path.

Lastly, don't be afraid to seek guidance and support. Consider talking to a career counselor or coach who can provide valuable insights and help you navigate your career journey. Networking with professionals in your desired field can also provide valuable advice and opportunities.

Remember, finding career clarity and happiness is a process that may require some trial and error. It's important to stay open-minded, be willing to learn and adapt, and trust in yourself and your abilities. Good luck on your journey!

Bravo AI 👏! You basically took everything I have ever posted and summed it up in a nice paragraph in 30 secs. But that isn’t where you’re stuck.

Where you’re getting stuck are your beliefs:

I’ll have to start over again.

I’m too old.

I don’t have what it takes to do that.

You might also be stuck because of your fears:

What if I don’t get an interview?

What if I fail?
What if I never find a fulfilling job?

The grass might not be greener on the other side

You might also be too comfortable:

I have a steady job, don’t rock the boat

I don’t have time to learn new skills

These are only a few examples and excuses I used to give myself when I was stuck.  But once I found my WHY, I was able to breakthrough these beliefs, fears and comfort. My deep connection to my WHY helped me create momentum, see opportunities and remind me of my true purpose in life when I feel beatdown.

That is why your WHY is so powerful. It helps you connect to everything you do.

So, what is your WHY. Share with me.
